1. Facebook. The latest statistics show that Facebook continues to reign strong as the king of social media, with 2.80 billion active users as of January 2021. That means that nearly two out of every three of the 4.2 billion active social mediausers are active Facebook users. It’s also the platform on which users spend the most time with an average of 58 minutes per day, compared to some of the other most popular social media platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Twitter.
2.The second most popular social media platforms in 2021 is YouTube with 2.3 billion active users — 84 percent of the number of Facebook users.
Given that 720,000 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every day worldwide, it may seem like an uphill task to get your video noticed. But you should also also consider this: 1 billion hours of video on YouTube are watched daily and 90 percent of consumers say they discover new brands and products through YouTube.
WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger, with two billion and 1.3 billion active users respectively. Unlike Facebook and YouTube, they are classified as a platform for messaging, chat, and/or calls.
Instagram and WeChat, both of which have just over 1.2 billion active users. Despite being relatively high on the list of the most popular social media platforms, their combined number of active users is still lower than that of Facebook’s.
Reddit did make waves at the end of 2020. With some high profile revelations coming from Reddit it has definitely grown in popularity, even though it is a platform that has been around since 2005.
For those that do not know Reddit, is effectively a collection of online forums and discussions which allow the user to vote and interact with. Conspiracy theories seem to be a popular feature on this platform, leading peoples more curious sides to take over.
Linkedln business networking has changed as we know it due to the global pandemic taking hold. The conventional meeting in a room is a thing of the past, so the virtual way is the only way forward. Last last year saw one of its best years to date with a new member every 2 seconds.
2021 looks to be a great year for the platform as they introduce more functionality, and the chance to really network with those that are either potential customers, or that operate within your chosen field.
Instagram has changed a lot in the last 12 months, with a new user interface which was controversial they took a risk and it definitely paid off.
With the rise also of platforms such as TikTok, Instagram released the “Reels” section to their platform allowing users to create fun videos in line with the newest crazes online.
